Essay / Reflection on the Renaissance - 1371
I thought that what I learned in this class was much more than what I had learned this semester. It's my penultimate semester, I'm glad I ended up taking this course. I discovered a new appreciation for Renaissance, walked into the class not knowing if I was going to like it, and ended up really enjoying what I got out of it. Works like Volpone, Faustus, The Alchemist, Faerie Queene and that doesn't do the poetry justice. Poems such as The Flea and Shakespeare's poems had a special impact on me. It's rare when I like the works we read in class, they are normally forgotten after a few weeks; but, as a course I took with Henson, we read all the good works and I will continue to read them every year. Reading half of Milton's Paradise Lost even proved vital, simply because I learned more about the book than before. Just finishing with Paradise Lost made me really understand what the book was about and what it was conveying as well. And even though we didn't finish, it was still a good last few classes that took place on Paradise.
