IntroductionAmerican International Group, Incorporation, is today's leading international insurance company. AIG is a publicly traded company and currently operates in more than 130 countries. The company didn't start out as big as it is today. It was founded by a young American named Cornelius Vander Starr in 1919 in Shanghai under the name American International Underwriters (AIG, 2013). Over the next few years, AIU underwent a series of acquisitions and mergers. In the late 1960s, AIG was formed as a public company as American Home began to become a major commercial and property and casualty insurer; between 1990 and 1999, AIG returned to its roots in China when it received the first foreign insurance license from the Chinese government after 40 years (AIG, 2013). At that time, AIG became a well-known insurance group in the world. Due to leadership and management failures and failure to predict and underestimate the risk associated with credit default swap CDS, AIG found itself in a financial crisis in 2008 (AIG, 2013) . This is when the United States government provided support to AIG and prevented it from going bankrupt. Since it was not the insurance company that caused the crises at AIG, the crises were due to the CDs. It was therefore easy for the company to recover thanks to its core business which was insurance. After recovering from the crisis, AIG was able to repay the aid received from the US government (AIG, 2013). As a result, there is no doubt that AIG has rebuilt its reputation and position in the national and international market. ServicesAIG is considered a service industry company.
