  • Essay / A Look at the American Revolutionary War

As we all know, the Patriots had won the war and the British had lost it. But what caused them to lose, was it the fact that it was a strategy effect or learning from their previous regrettable mistakes? How did the Americans defeat one of the most powerful countries in the world? First, let's look at some main reasons why the British lost. To begin with, the Americans had a “home advantage” while the British were quite far from their own homeland. In addition, the Americans received a lot of help from the French. The British, too, didn't take the Americans too seriously, much less when they were fighting the Americans. This led the British Army to make many different mistakes. Finally, the Americans achieved victory through their abundance of American patriotism. Now let's look at each of these reasons in more detail, the first being that the Americans had an advantage. This was quite an advantage, because the Americans were fighting on their own ground, in their own homeland. Why was this advantage important and how was it useful? This was a great advantage because they had new ways of exiting and entering, basically they knew the land so well as if it was their left hand. However, for the British, they were very far from their lands and therefore did not know much about the terrain. This therefore limited the effectiveness of the British army. (They additionally had difficulty reaching England.) The second point is that the Americans received a lot of help from the French, all seeking independence. First, they equipped the US military with experienced officers or militants. They also helped them by giving them power, money, and general supplies. At this point, the Americans and French acted as if it was a world war for the British, as it resulted in political sanctions for the British. Eventually, they provided the Americans with a competent fleet or navy, which later played a huge role in the capitulation of the British. Another main reason why the British lost, and which I believe was the real reason for their loss, was that their strategy effect. The British never really took the Americans seriously, and so in this war they did not use their ideal or traditional strategy. British commanders suffered from their lack of strategy, one example being the lack of communication between commanders and armies, which led to them losing wars..
