Do government CSR policies help consumers or organizationsGovernment CSR policies benefit consumers and organizations. Consumers are protected from abuse when organizations adhere to policies set by the government. The government has passed laws and created regulations as a guide for organizations to follow for environmental protection. According to Masahudu (2004), “several government CSR policies, such as the National Environmental Protection Law, the Air Quality Law, the Safe Drinking Water Law, the Law on Toxic Substances Control and the Clean Water Act help protect consumers and organizations. (p. 1). An example of a policy that helps consumers and organizations is the Clean Water Act. The Clean Water Act provides a variety of regulatory and non-regulatory tools to significantly reduce direct discharges of pollutants into waterways. Regulatory and non-regulatory policies provide guidance to organizations to reduce funding for municipal wastewater treatment facilities and manage polluted runoff. Additionally, regulatory and non-regulatory tools help organizations achieve their broader goal of restoring and maintaining the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the nation's waters. Implementation of the Clean Water Act ensures the protection and propagation of fish, shellfish, wildlife, and recreation in and on the water. Additionally, the Clean Water Act helps organizations obtain government funding for maintaining equipment used to detect water pollution and cleaning toxins in water. The benefit of the Clean Water Act provides consumers with toxin-free and unpolluted bathing and drinking water (EPA, 2011; Masahudu, 2004).
