Although I have just started learning the saxophone, I am very intrigued by its history and musical origin. The saxophone is simply an amazing instrument with so many different types and variations, and so many musical genres that it is capable of playing. The saxophone can produce sweet angelic sounds or punchy jazz numbers, basically anything you want to hear from the saxophone, and its player is capable of providing it for you. On such a versatile instrument, the possibilities are endless and I'm here to share with you some of the most amazing and challenging things about the saxophone. I will tell you the history of the saxophone and its influence on the musical world, and much more. The saxophone was created by Antoine Joseph Sax, but more commonly considered as Adolphe Sax in 1846. The saxophone is the newest wind instrument. having been produced and accepted in music. In 1814, Adolphe Sax was born in Dinant, Belgium. At a very young age, he learned from his father, who had his own instrument-making workshop, how to make instruments himself. He studied flute and clarinet at the Brussels Conservatory in Belgium, and in 1840 Adolphe decided to make an instrument covering the middle register of military orchestra music. He wanted a sound similar to that of the clarinet, but also with the brass sound of the trumpet. He made it a hybrid using a clarinet mouthpiece and oboe-like key work. In 1842, Adolphe moved to Paris to complete the creation of the instrument that would soon bear his name, the “Saxophone”. He finished manufacturing the saxophone in 1845, and it was quickly taken up by several French orchestral composers in 1846.
