    There have been debates over whether animal testing contributes enough to society to be worth the pain animals suffer (Clemmitt). Monkeys, cats and dogs are being killed and tortured while science has yet to make a revolutionary discovery over the decades. Even with this type of testing, there are still alternative methods that would meet the needs of science (Leepson). However, these alternatives are not accepted by testing institutions. A respected physician in the field, Dr. Elias Zerhouni, says: "The problem is that [animal testing] didn't work, and it's time we stop circling the problem... We need to refocus and adapt new methodologies for use in humans to understand the biology of human diseaseā€ (PETA). Knowing this, it is difficult to condone the actions of experimenters, who torture the same types of animals you have in your home, the animals you call your best friends. The new technology available is said to be more beneficial to human health and includes human cell and tissue testing (PETA).
