Essay / France in the 19th Century - 1412
France in the 19th century was a dangerous warground, filled with distrust and greed for power. Political conflict, bloodshed, prejudice and more tore France apart. In 1871, the Franco-Prussian War resulted in the defeat and humiliation of France. The war that France thought it could easily win resulted in the French Third Republic ceding its provinces of Alsace and Lorraine to the victorious Germany (Krieger p.171). Shortly after France's defeat, Parisians formed a radical group called the "Commune." The Commune rejected the new conservative government and sparked a revolt in Paris.
