The Effects of Violent Movies and TV Shows With the explosion of technology today, access to media is at your fingertips, anytime , anywhere and almost 24/7. Video games, movies, cartoons, daily news, websites, music videos and even in advertisements, violence is everywhere and it is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid. Violence in the media is increasing and reaching dangerous proportions. According to the Media Violence Commission report, the effects are remarkably consistent regardless of media type, age, gender, or where in the world the person lives (336). Numerous studies and research reveal empirical evidence linking violence in movies and television shows to aggressive behaviors in children, adolescents, and adults. Increased aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence, and fear are three types of negative effects that violence in movies and television shows contributes to. The article "The Influence of Media Violence on Youth" points out that violent television shows, films and music reveal unequivocal evidence that media violence increases the likelihood of aggressive behavior and violent, both immediately and in the long term (Anderson, Craig A., 81). Violence has now become commonplace. The Hunger Games, one of the highest-grossing films of 2013, filled with blood, gore and violence. The Walking Dead was once voted the highest-rated entertainment program on television with gruesome scenes of violence, head-stabbing murders, bloodied corpses, and disturbing and haunting images shown in most scenes. CBS' Criminal Minds is a television show featuring a series of chilling scenarios depicting the violent murders of psychopaths. Worst of all, Silence of the Lambs is about a psychopath who ...... middle of paper ...... spends time there on an internet connection. But some restrictions are better than none at all. No single factor can cause children or adults to act aggressively. Rather, it is the accumulation of risk factors that leads to an aggressive act. Hundreds of studies look at the issue of violent media, which always seems to end up in the same place with three major effects, including increased aggressive behavior in various forms, desensitization, and fear. Not all viewers will be materially affected, but we know that every viewer is affected in some way. Some have argued that violent media is the main cause of mass shootings. Others have argued that there is no solid evidence of the harmful effects of violent media. But it is clear that exposure to media violence is one of the risk factors for increased aggressive behavior, desensitization and fear..
