Essay / Biography of Salvador Dali - 867
Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dali i Domenech, Marquis of Dali de Puebol was born on May 11, 1904 in Spain. His father, Salvador Dali y Cusi, was a middle-class lawyer and notary. His father was very strict about the education of his children. On the other hand, his mother, Felipa Domenech Ferres, gave Salvador more freedom to express himself as he wanted, this can be seen in his art and how eccentric he was throughout his life. Salvador was a bright and intelligent child, and often known for his tantrums. His father punished him by beating him, as did some of the bullies at school. Salvador's father did not tolerate his son's outbursts or wild ways, and he was often punished. The father and son did not have a good relationship and there seemed to be a competition between the two for the attention of his mother, Felipa. Dali had an older brother, five years old, who died exactly nine months before his birth. His name was Salvador Dali. There have been many different stories about how it was named. It is traditional in Spanish culture for the eldest male to take the father's name, it's a simple story. The other story was that his father gave him the same name expecting him to look like his deceased five-year-old older brother. Later in his life, Dali told others that his parents took him to his brother's grave and told him that he was a reincarnation of his deceased older brother. Dali said: “We look as alike as two drops of water, but we had different reflections. He was probably an early version of myself, but over-conceived in absolute terms.” Being a child and trying to understand that your parents are comparing you to a sibling who has a past is difficult, but the fact that Salvador had to go to the grave is incomprehensible....... middle of paper ......the next pleasure: that of being Salvador Dali. Many people thought he took drugs to be able to create his images, but Dali was known to deprive himself of food and sleep for days to create these hallucinations which he turned into art. His works and his life gave everyone something to talk about and he didn't care what others thought and was afraid to say what he thought. Dali seems to be a crazy man, whether he tries to be or is just naturally eccentric. Works Cited "Arena - Salvador Dali". Youtube. Internet.
