  • Essay / Majoring In Success by Patrick Combs - 749

Patrick Combs' book, Major in Success is a very useful guide for students and young adults who want to advance their careers and futures. Comb emphasizes the importance of extraordinary drive and how it can lead to greatness. I found this book very helpful because Comb focuses his book on four ways students can follow to succeed after college, which we also focused on in class. Comb defends the idea that you have to find your passions to succeed by emphasizing that: it is important to admit your interests to discover what you like to do, it is beneficial to find your true aspirations in order to be able to refine your interests, It is also helpful to realize that there are many jobs related to one's interests to be able to find the right job, and it is necessary to face one's fears in order to succeed. Patrick Combs explains how important it is for everyone to recognize their interests and what they like to do in life in order to be successful and determine their passions. Throughout his book, I noticed that he often references the importance of following your passions and dreams. Combs describes passions as “the greatest treasures you can find.” Combs tells the reader that he needs to figure out what he likes to do. Combs teaches that you can find your self-interest by using your “built-in compass” and trusting your emotions. Once their interests are identified, the next step is to identify their true aspirations. Combs emphasizes that it is beneficial to find your true aspirations in life so you can determine your primary interests. Combs uses this section to explain that you need to narrow down your interests in order to find your true passions. It uses technology...... middle of paper ......hing. Patrick Combs' book, Majoring in Success, argues that one must find one's passion to succeed by enforcing this: it is important to admit one's interests to discover what one likes to do, it is beneficial to find one's true aspirations in order to to be able to narrow down your interests, it is also helpful to realize that there are many jobs related to your interests so you can find the right job, and it is necessary to face your fears to be successful. I agree with Comb's point that determining one's passions is essential to success, because I believe one will never be truly successful unless one is satisfied with what one is doing with one's life. I found the arguments and teaching on GIS to be inspiring because it taught me that to succeed, failure is inevitable along the way..
