Essay / Advantages and disadvantages of DNA cloning and genetic manipulation
DNA cloningGenetic manipulation and cloning have seen great scientific progress in recent years. Genetic manipulation is the art of modifying DNA, whether it is a plant, an animal or a bacteria. For example, seedless watermelon is a byproduct of genetic manipulation. Scientists use this practice in many laboratories around the world to create more advanced medical and agricultural products. Every living thing contains DNA. Genetic manipulation can benefit us greatly if used in the correct way, but it can also be used in a morally wrong way. Some have the idea of cloning human beings as a way to cope with the death of a loved one, this is an example of the immoral use of genetic manipulation. Cloning human beings is not only immoral, but also ethically wrong and illegal. There are those who are fighting for this to be legalized, while some religious communities and others are getting upset about it. There are three types of genetic manipulation. The first two consist of somatic manipulation and germline manipulation. Somatic manipulation will alter a single person's genetic makeup, such as their physical appearance. Germline manipulation will alter genetics for future generations (Hayes, 2000). Some doctors suggest that parents test their unborn children for any disorders they may have and treat them with somatic manipulation. In this way, parents can have a perfect baby, without any disability or illness in the future. In order to complete this process, the doctor must insert a needle into the mother's stomach and the unborn fetus and obtain a flake of dried skin. Then they can test this skin to see what the baby's genetic makeup will be made of. Some...... middle of paper ...... many species endangered due to human negligence. If they can clone a human, they can most certainly clone an animal, which would significantly reduce the number of endangered species. Overall, when considering the ideas of DNA cloning and genetic modification of humans, it can be linked to that of the Holocaust. Hitler wanted to abolish the inferior race (the Jews), just as cloning will eventually eradicate all individuals who do not fit the general perception of perfection. It would not simply be a matter of killing anyone who did not fit our expectations, but rather a process of social Darwinism, only the fittest will survive and continue. Almost all poor and unhealthy people will be eliminated. The only thing we will gain in the future is a society devoid of any sign of diversity and a world incapable of coping with the natural process of life..
