  • Essay / The Pros and Cons of Child Trafficking - 1408

According to (google), human trafficking is an “illegal movement of people, usually for the purpose of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation” ( quote). Millions of women, men and children are targeted by traffickers to access a better life or better working conditions. Human trafficking exists all over the world, where victims are transported to different parts of the world or forced into exploitation. There are many types of human trafficking, but the most common are forced labor, child trafficking, and sex trafficking. However, there are programs to help victims get information or help to stop being victims of human trafficking and start living a better life. According to (Anti-Slavery), these are young children who are “abducted from the street, sold”. to sexual slavery and forced marriage by relatives, or anywhere where traffickers, pimps and recruiters take advantage of a child's vulnerabilities. Poverty is the precondition that makes it easier for traffickers to operate” (quote). Poverty plays a large role in child trafficking because it makes it easy for them to get their children to do what they want because the parents believe their child is living a better life than they would have couldn't offer it to him. Traffickers promise parents that their child will get the best education, health care, and good jobs if they accompany them where everything is possible. However, in the end, it's always the opposite of what they were promised. Children who come from another country become more "vulnerable" because they lose "the connection with their family and are at the mercy of their employers" (quote). The only reason children are trafficked more often than adults is because "children are more vulnerable, cheaper to hire, and are less likely to demand higher wages or better working conditions" (quote). This way, the caregiver makes more money and the children are less likely to leave their condition because they think they are living a better life than they ever would. According to (quote), in 2006, "the US State Department reported that one million people according to (sex) sex trafficking "is forced prostitution or human trafficking for the purpose of exploitation sexual” (quote). This includes prostitution, pornography, and sexual performances performed in exchange for anything of value, such as money, drugs, shelter, food, or clothing (quote). This occurs when “victims fall prey to a trafficker through the promise of a romantic relationship, a better life, or a false job offer” (quote). Traffickers use many different ways to capture their victims, especially women and girls, because they use them to get something in the end, like money. Sex trafficking can be easy for some people, but for victims, they suffer from a variety of health issues such as "depression, suicidal thoughts and attempts, and physical injuries such as bruises, broken bones, injuries to the head, stab wounds, injuries to the mouth and teeth and even death” (quote). Victims of sex trafficking are at high risk of contracting “sexually transmitted infections” such as HIV (cite). The women concerned are likely to become pregnant and therefore end up having an abortion, but as they cannot seek medical care.
