While racism is an ideology based on the predominance of certain races or ethnicities over others, racial discrimination is an act based on a racist ideology. Understanding the meaning of racism is not an easy task, as many confuse racism and xenophobia, according to. For the RAE, xenophobia is hatred, loathing or hostility towards foreigners and as I have already said, racism is an ideology based on the superiority of one race over others. The big difference between these two concepts is that racism is an ideology of superiority, while xenophobia is a feeling of rejection. Racism is also often confused with other concepts such as ethnocentrism, classism and even homophobia. If we look at history, racism in the strict sense begins in the 18th century in the Western world.
