As they say, “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”, a tattoo can be a work of art or a permanent stain on the body depending on the perception of each individual . Tattoos are a growing trend as a means of identification or as a fashion statement. Younger generations are greatly attracted by its popularity and uniqueness, as it symbolizes sophistication. “Getting a tattoo” seems more like a hysteria that has finally lost the true beauty of tattoos. In the article “Indelible Love: My Son and Me’s Tattoos,” Lois Desocio worries about her son’s addiction to tattoos. Desocio's concern for his son is plausible in that tattoos automatically create negative impressions on people because they are considered counterculture in society. Counterculture is a set of values once considered to have negative impacts on society, which are no longer followed by people. In our society, tattoos are considered to have harmful effects and are therefore counterculture. However, younger generations are heavily influenced by body art which makes tattoos overrated.
