  • Essay / Coral Reef Conservation - 1788

If there is a new product on the market, people buy it and use it every day without knowing where it came from or how it was made, but the people “love it, can’t live without it”. Using it carelessly and repurchasing it without keeping it, but what if this product disappears and there is nothing else like it. Suddenly everything becomes more difficult and seems more difficult. There is only one solution to solve the problem: to make people aware of what has been done to this significant product in life. What happens when no one else cares? People don't worry about their actions affecting things outside of their daily routine until they disappear or become unavailable. It is under these conditions that coral reefs are affected today. The reckless actions of ordinary people endanger the life of coral reefs; However; with proper conservation and awareness, these reefs can be saved. Located in warm, shallow waters, coral reefs are found near paradise shores. Although these reefs are composed primarily of calcium carbonate skeletons of dead coral animals, they create a protective exoskeleton that protects the thousands of species that live there (Coral, 2007). The reefs are filled with vibrant colors caused by a semiotic relationship between coral and algae called Zooxanthella. This relationship gives coral its color and contributes to nutrient production. In return, the coral provides the algae with an environment in which to live and provides a constant amount of carbon dioxide for the photosynthetic process of Zooxanthella. (Buchheim, 1998-2013). These reefs have the most biodiverse habitats for marine life, supporting twenty-five percent of marine animals (Earthjustice, 2014).
