Malawi is a small country slightly smaller than Pennsylvania in central and southern Africa. It has a large lake that covers most of the country's eastern border. Lake Malawi is the third largest lake in Africa, reaching depths of up to 3,000 feet in some areas ("The World Fact"). The climate is subtropical with a rainy season and a dry season. Malawi is generally divided into three different sections when talking about the country. The three different sections are Northern Malawi and Central Malawi, where the capital Lilongwe (“The World Fact”) is located. The third section is called Southern Malawi. The southern part of the country has land on the eastern and western borders, unlike central and northern Malawi. Malawi is known as the “warm heart of Africa”. The reason it is known as the "warm heart of Africa" is that the country is relatively peaceful compared to the civil unrest that plagues many African countries. It is also known as the “warm heart of Africa” because of the kindness of the natives to everyone (Westberg & Westberg, 2013). Malawi has recently become a popular tourist area. Malawi has beautiful lakes, incredible safaris and peace of mind when it comes to safety and security (“The World Fact”). Malawi has a rich history and culture, they have beautiful arts, theater, music as well as architecture which can be seen while walking around any of the major cities in Malawi. Malawi is believed to be the home of ancient human ancestors. Malawi has a rich culture which includes values, arts, education and food which when combined make a country of extremely friendly people. Tribes and countries around the world have influenced the culture of Malawi. Malawi's culture is very unique as an African country, due to all the different influences. Popular music in Malawi ranges from traditional African music to Swedish techno, proving just how diverse Malawian culture is. Malawi's culture will continue to be influenced by outside sources as its popularity as a travel destination slowly increases..
