James Dashner's addictive, action-packed novel The Scorch Trials is the second book in the bestselling Maze Runner series. Dashner creates a world where the lives of a group of teenagers depend on the human race. The book's setting takes place in a futuristic America, much like Dashner's third book in the series, The Death Cure. Both books retell the plot of the first book; they employ similar and different techniques. The Scorch Trials conveys a simple but powerful theme that many readers could apply to real-world scenarios. The main theme is to always trust family and friends. Although Thomas (the main character) doesn't remember his biological parents, he always considered the Gladers his family. The book takes a turn when Thomas believes that his lover, Teresa, with whom Thomas can communicate telepathically, is using him to help WICKED.
