  • Essay / Scarlet Letter Project - 1312

My Scarlet Letter Project consists of a model dressed in a cute costume. Underneath the costume, I made a tattoo of the letter A on the model's chest, and I also drew a tramp stamp. The letter A which symbolizes affliction is made up of nine Chinese characters which each have a symbolic meaning and the tramp's stamp is the Chinese character for tempter. Building the project took a lot of time, but it was not beyond my capabilities or my hobbies. On the other hand, money was a concern for me. Luckily, I was able to purchase a used mannequin for twenty-five dollars from a warehouse. Since I lacked experience with Chinese characters, I was afraid of drawing the characters without some practice, so I had to make several drafts on paper before drawing them on the mannequin. When comparing my project to my proposal, you may notice a considerable difference. At first, I planned to create a cavity in the mannequin's chest and place a symbolic object there, but several complications arose. First, the warehouse only had mannequins made from fiberglass instead of plastic, which meant I would have to use a drill instead of a knife to make the cavity, and I didn't feel confident in my abilities. with a drill. Second, it wouldn't have been fun for me. Yes, the idea of using a mannequin appealed to me, but everything else seemed bland. On the other hand, I've wanted a meaningful tattoo since I was little, even though I wasn't allowed to have one. Plus, I love drawing, which you've probably noticed from all the doodling I do in class. Third, the idea of drilling a hole in a chest and making a box lends itself to many tasks that I personally find tedious. Although it took more than five to six hours to write Ch...... middle of paper...... the project was rather time consuming, but it was not beyond my capabilities or of my hobbies. But above all, I would not have appreciated it as I did with this one..
