Escaping Human Trafficking in AmericaMany people are surprised to learn that human trafficking is not just a problem outside of America's borders and is increasingly becoming an American problem over time . With the illegal drug trade alone leading the way, human trafficking has become the second largest criminal industry in the world. The figures are only estimates, as most human trafficking takes place in secret, without the knowledge of many. However, investigators have identified some approximate figures. One million children are kidnapped and sold into sex slavery around the world every year, but what is even more surprising are the numbers between one hundred thousand and three hundred thousand. The number one hundred thousand three hundred thousand represents the number of American children who are taken and sold into sex slavery, in America alone, every year. Some statistics from the state of Ohio that are increasing dramatically and becoming alarming are statistics such as one thousand youth are involved in human trafficking and three thousand are at risk of being involved in human trafficking. Many people in America are affected every day, in different ways, by human trafficking. Victims, ringleaders, men and women who harm victims, and families of victims are all examples of people who are affected, in different ways, by human trafficking.
