  • Essay / Change is difficult but often essential to survival

In life, change is inevitable. Les Brown once said, “Change is difficult, but often essential to survival. » This means that it is difficult to cope with the changes happening around us, but they are important because they allow us to move forward in our lives. I agree with this statement because I have experienced things that made me realize the truth of this quote. The first time was when I had to leave America to go to the Philippines. The second was when I had to leave the Philippines and return to America. The first way this quote relates to my life is when I had to leave America for the Philippines. To understand this story, you first need to know me a little. I was born in the Philippines but my family moved to America in 2004 when I was only 4 and a half years old. I don't remember much before, so I can't really say I was deeply affected. I learned to speak English very quickly, but unfortunately I also started to forget how to speak Tagalog (a Filipino dialect that my family speaks). In 2008, when I was 8 years old, my parents told me and my brother that we had to return to the Philippines and that they would not accompany us. When I asked them why, they only told me that my grandmother was no longer able to take care of us after school and that no one else could. I asked them why they weren't coming with us and they told me it was because they still had work. I was still young at the time so I didn't think much about it. Now that I think about it, that's probably not the only reason. I still don't know the whole story, but regardless, sending us back to the Philippines was probably the only choice my parents had. Since we were too young to fly alone, my mother came with us. When we landed... middle of paper... but with the help of my friends and family, I was doing great. No matter how hard it was, I was still happy to finally be able to be with my parents after 3 years of separation. These changes weren't easy to deal with, but things got better after a while and I'm happy where I am now. According to Les Brown, “Change is difficult, but often essential to survival.” This means that it is always difficult to experience changes, but they are important because they prepare us for life. The first way this relates to my life is when I had to leave America for the Philippines. The second way this relates to my life is when I had to leave the Philippines to return to America. Everyone goes through changes and most of the time they can seem unbearable. The only thing people need to understand is that the changes they are going through today are what will help them in the future..
