  • Essay / The Illegal Process of the Trial of Christ - 1146

Many, many illegal things happened during the trial of Jesus. Their goal was to convict him, not to truly and legally find out if he was guilty. They had been looking for a way to put him to death for a long time. Now they had Him in their hands and they were doing their best to get rid of Him. “If these men had intended to conduct a legal trial, a specific charge would have been made against Christ and a warrant for his arrest would have been issued. »1 Since that wasn't what they wanted, they just twisted things to help them. succeed in their agenda. This sounds like what people in our government have been thinking for the past few days. So now, what were some of the things that Jewish leaders did? First, the law stated that it was illegal to perform any of the legal procedures for a capital crime at night. Right away we see that Jesus was resting in the garden at night. We can find this in the Bible where it talks about the crowd with lanterns when they came to look for Jesus. We read in the Bible how they were afraid to capture Jesus in the temple, because of the people. By making this nighttime capture, they were able to make a more secret arrest. Then these Jews went even further and had the trial at night. There was also the law which said that the trials had to take place after the morning sacrifices. Once again we see that this law was also broken. Now let's look at Judas to see if what he did was even legal as far as the law was concerned. Judas was what we would call an accomplice of Jesus since he was with him. The law stated that testimony from accomplices was not allowed, but allowed them to use Judas as a means to arrest Jesus. Earl L. Wingo said, “They had no warrant, no authority to arrest. »2 The normal arrest process was carried out. in pairs or ...... middle of paper ......ling to do it for us. He did it so we could go to heaven. Let us not forget to thank him and render our service to him.
