  • Essay / Public System Education - 1329

Dear California Department of Education, The problem with America's failing school system is that some students are unwilling to learn because they feel that the subjects they are being taught at school are not linked to life. and that teachers teach lessons that do not interest students. Education is clearly the tool for success in life, but if public teachers are not willing to show interest in their teaching towards students, then how will students strive to learn in school . Students begin to lose interest in school because outstanding teachers are laid off due to budget cuts and end up with the less outstanding teachers or the bad ones who got tenure. Tenure is what protects public school teachers who have taught for more than ten years and can no longer lose their teaching credentials; therefore, they decided to take advantage of the American public school system to be able to earn money. America's public teachers say they're here to get paid and don't care much about their students. These teachers could clearly ruin a student's future because a teacher's voice could have a negative impact on the student, causing them to not try out in school. Today, many public school teachers do not impart enough knowledge to their students; For example, I was having trouble writing a college essay right now because the public professors I had at my school were literally giving me an exceptional grade just for completing the assignment, so I thought I was always good at what I did. I thought writing essays was easy and just plain boring because I wasn't putting any effort into writing due to getting outstanding grades on all my essays. J...... middle of paper ...... can the public system work this way, every student will have a higher graduation rate and fewer dropouts. Today, many students do not have their own voice in the classroom when the teacher has authority over classroom rules. Strict teachers make students lose their creativity because they are too afraid to express themselves. Sincerely, Phillip Nguyen5/13/14
