Essay / Article, From Tragedy to Triumph by Richard V. Halstead,...
There are many people in today's society who endure many horrible experiences and are able to overcome the harsh trials that are imposed on them in order to become successful in life. While some people suggest that these people will struggle throughout their lives, others claim that they just need a few words of encouragement to progress in life. Regardless of anyone's opinion, it is very important to remember that no one has to go through anything alone and that help and encouragement will always be available to those who seek it. A social service professional can be defined as a person who works to better the lives of those with whom they come into contact. Human service professionals come into contact with many people throughout their career and will often encounter many difficult stories told to them. For example, reading an article written by Richard W. Halstead, Tragedy to Triumph: Counselor as Companion on the Hero's Journey, which I found in the Kaplan Library and which involved a counselor and a student named Steve. I learned that not only can the student learn more about themselves, but so can the advisors. For example, after reading the article written by Richard W. Halstead, I was able to answer some questions I was asked regarding the advisor and Steve. . I believe the counselor learned that while the longest path may not be the easiest, it can be one of the most rewarding paths and that as a counselor you can't always try to change or to direct the path a person is on, but rather to encourage them. and do your best to help them realize that help is there that will enable them to achieve their goal. Furthermore, I believe that because... middle of document ......we will help those who desperately need help without exposing them to the risk of finding themselves in ethical dilemmas. In conclusion, I believe that we can all learn a lot from the people we come into contact with and be able to help improve their lives in many ways as well as our own. As I showed the examples regarding the relationship between the advisor and Steve. So perhaps future generations will not think about how to put individuals down, but instead focus on helping them achieve their goals.ReferencesHalstead, RW (2000).
