As seen in the film, Victor states that his father's memories of the events were not accurate, so the audience could speculate that Victor's father was using his imagination. The reason Victor's father used his imagination was due to the anger he felt because his son had not made the winning shot. This is a perfect example of how anger and imagination can be used in harmony to lead to survival.
