Essay / Decision Making - 1489
Approaches that could be used to make a decisionThe decision making strategy that would be most effective regarding the problem and the decision that Mr. Miller will need to make would be best developed with a decision process of band. This allows Mr. Miller to share the problem with his staff and listen to staff ideas and ideas (Green 2013). There is no way for Mr. Miller to make the decision himself about how to implement instructional changes so that gifted students receive more rigorous and challenging instruction, while at the same time meeting the needs of the student who requires a substantial amount of instruction to succeed. This is a decision that will require a team approach. Mr. Miller should also encourage parents to attend these meetings as well. Research shows that when parents participate in school meetings and share feedback and ideas, it promotes participation and a sense of collaboration between schools and parents (Epstein, nd)Mr. Miller has two sets of parents who ask for different things, but who support Mr. Miller. One group of parents feels that gifted students are not challenged enough, and the other group of parents are satisfied with the teaching of all students and would like Mr. Miller to make no changes. Mr. Miller is very fortunate in that he has the support of both sets of parents. He established a relationship with both sets of parents. Since Mr. Miller is new to the school, he will be required to demonstrate his competence in Standard 5 of the ISLLC Standards to the community and parents, in his ability to act with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner, so that his students succeed. (Green, 2013). As a leader, Mr. Miller will be expected to demonstrate Standard 5 of...... middle of paper ......ez, Edwards, 2008). In my opinion, this article does not promote a partnership between parents and the school. It promotes keeping parents informed of any issues that may arise with their student, progress, and any academic concerns. The section appears to be one-sided communication and sends the message that teachers only talk to parents when there is something to report about their students. However, in this section it also states that teachers and counselors should contact parents to strategize on academic approval plans. In addition to the message my school is sending, I would add the following message: All parents are encouraged by the school district to become actively involved in the decision-making process of your student's school, by attending board meetings. board of directors, school improvement meetings and any other meeting which you, as the parent sees fit, attend.
