Auschwitz was carried out in Oswiecim, Poland. Heinrich Himmler gave the order to build this “hell hole”, described by a survivor. In May 1940, Auschwitz was completely built. When the Germans took the Jews away, they decided which camp they would go to. If they chose Auschwitz, it was more likely that you would die shortly after arriving. Once there, they divided the children into a separate line and the men into the other. There, a doctor would choose your fate: you would work as long as you could, or if you looked sick, the doctor would ask the guards to send you to the gas chamber right away. Some mothers held their children for the last time, not knowing it would be the last time. Prisoners were assigned a number and this was tattooed on their forearm; their identity was nothing more than a number. The idea of not having freedom and not being able to eat makes a person very stressful....
