He was born in Norwich, educated at Cambridge and Oxford, then embarked on a literary life in London. We can only refer to his thirty-five prose treatises, which probably constitute the best of his literary work; they reveal his intense but erotic energy, his lively and mischievous mind and his powerful imagination. Among his plays are "Alphonsus", "King of Aragon", by far his best work and containing beautiful depictions of Elizabethan life. "Orlando Furioso", adapted from an English translation of "Aristo". Greene is weak in character creation and his style is not of exceptional value. But his humor is a bit brilliant in his pieces and his methods are less austere than those of others.
