Essay / Career Management Process - 935
Career management plays an important role in career development. Career management involves taking certain actions necessary to achieve the career plan and generally focusing more on the organization's ability to make its employees increase their career development (Werner and DeSimone, 2009) . The career path can usually be achieved, at least to some extent, through the training program implemented by the organization. The career management process included four stages: self-assessment, reality check, goal setting and action planning (see Figure 1 in Appendix 1). The first step in the career management process is self-assessment. Self-assessment refers to employees using certain information that helps them decide which career they really want to pursue, their abilities, skills and behavioral tendencies. According to Allen (2005), self-assessment is a process of identifying employees' skills, abilities and knowledge. During this stage, employees must complete certain tests such as the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory and self-directed research. The tests help employees identify the value of work they place on their work as well as their leisure time. Self-assessment is also involved in some exercises that allow employees to identify their future career plans, where they are currently and how their career fits with the current situation and available resources (Noe, 2010) . Once the exercises were completed, career counselors typically assisted the employee in their self-assessment process and also provided explanations of the psychological test results. Then employees evaluate their current skills and abilities as well as the abilities they lack with some information...... middle of paper ...... business occurs when there is a position that needs be filled immediately and employees who have the necessary abilities to obtain the position can apply. All four stages of the career management process are important and none can be ignored. Works Cited Allen, R. (2005). Competitive career management practices. Massachusetts, USA: WalthamAntoniu, E.
