  • Essay / Gender inequalities in sport - 774

Men and women have been separated from the beginning of life. God gave Adam responsibility for the Earth. When God created Eve, He removed a piece of Adam's rib from his womb to create Eve. According to this story from the Bible, men believe that God made them better than women. And this has since created gender inequality between men and women. Gender inequality, as stated on the Free Dictionary website, is "the difference between women and men in social, political, economic, or other achievements or attitudes, or the problem is perceived to exist because of this difference. I think when it comes to women's sports, there is a big difference between the sexes. Some of these differences are caused by men. A good example is that there are a lot of men who take this as a joke. Most men believe that women simply do not have the ability to have the strength and skills to compete with men. While others consider women too girly to play and will cry and complain if they break a nail. Some people think that women are too fragile and that if they try to compete with a man, they will be seriously injured. I believe these opinions men have about women in sport lead to gender inequality. A good example to start with is the college inequality survey. I'm curious to see how many women are head coaches of a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sport at the division one level. After finding these statistics, I will see how many of these coaches actually coach in a men's sport. I'm curious about this situation because I already know that there are more male head coaches than females. I want to know why the NCAA has an inequity... middle of paper ... I think they deserve it. Almost all women who play sports train just as hard as men. Women put their blood, sweat and tears into their sport, just like men. Additionally, women participate in sports even when Mother Nature visits them and it seems to me that it would take a lot of effort to continue competing. I watched Oklahoma point guard Whitney Hand in 2009 tear his ACL to the point where I know if it happened to any man he would be in just as much pain. I believe that if more men sat down and watched women's professional sports, it could eventually become a bigger empire. Works Cited ESPN "Oklahoma's Hand Done For Year". ESPN.com.
