As they grow up, children learn different moral sayings, one of which is “beauty comes from within”, but is that really the case? The answer is no, we are attracted to physical appearance and then later personality comes into play. When one is so intrigued by someone's appearance that it attracts one person to another, it is of attraction. There are certain aspects of a person's appearance that make them attractive to many people, things like facial symmetry and body size ratios, that's their attractiveness. When looking at someone we don't know, we analyze their facial symmetry or head/shoulder ratio because it's an instinct. It involves a variety of different factors that come together to produce what an individual considers attraction. This article will include these attractiveness factors from a psychological perspective, three different articles will be reviewed and brought together to help understand attractiveness. In the first article “Symmetry and Perceived Facial Attractiveness: A Comparison of Monozygotic Co-Twins,” author Linda Mealy suggests that facial symmetry plays an important role in attractiveness. She draws attention to the fact that facial attractiveness plays just as important a role in gender selection as physical attractiveness does when searching for potential mates. Certain facial features deemed “attractive” in each gender unknowingly influence human sex selection. These are facial indicators that accompany puberty and increase with sexual maturity. Indicators such as “high testosterone levels in young men lead to growth in the lower face and jawline; Chin length and width are important determinants of the perception of male attractiveness.
