Title: How did American immigration laws impact the Holocaust.Research question: How did American laws impact the Holocaust?Essay length : 5 pages Throughout history, there is a revolutionary event that forces society to reform its beliefs. The Holocaust was one such event, refugees were persecuted in various ways and society had the choice of helping, isolating, or confirming that any persecution was acceptable or justified. In every choice, our society has described that there is a right and wrong decision for everything; it was wrong that American law did not do its best to help Holocaust refugees, it led to future prejudice and suffering for millions. The Holocaust impacted Americans in many ways. On the one hand, the Holocaust created a number of fears in the minds of Americans. One was that Americans feared Nazi infiltration (American and the Holocaust: Exploring US Responses). The Nazis and their ability to invade were unprecedented during this period and their primary targets were Jews and non-Aryans. Thus, Americans feared that by increasing immigration quotas and allowing abundant numbers of Jewish refugees to enter America, it would unleash the Nazis and they would attack America at its core. Along with fears of infiltration, Americans faced financial fears which led to the creation of the government. being against quota reform, due to the depression Americans were facing. The original solution adopted by the United States to allay these fears was the concept of isolationism, in order to be able to focus on domestic issues (Holocaust Memorial Museum). One of the general issues that arose during the Holocaust was that the subject matter discussed during the Holocaust as it relates to American laws was an unprecedented event that...... middle of paper... we wouldn't want to risk everything to help innocent strangers.
