Essay / Christian Engineering Ethics Essay - 1331
This process involves taking responsibility for and approving the details of a design plan. In the engineering profession, it is unethical to approve designs outside one's area of expertise. For example, it would be unethical for a mechanical engineer to approve the electrical network plans for a skyscraper, just as it would be unethical for a computer engineer to put his stamp of approval on approval on the structural plans of a suspension bridge. The fundamental principle underlying this ethical standard is integrity: an engineer should not give approval to a plan that he or she cannot fully understand. An engineer with a Christian worldview should follow this practice not only because it is the right thing to do in engineering, but more importantly because it is what God expects of his children (Hebrews 13: 18). The Christian worldview makes the engineering profession both justified and more useful. Although Christian engineers are not called to be full-time ministers, they are able to glorify God and be a shining light through ethical and diligent work in the field of engineering. For this reason, Christian students entering the field of engineering can be excited and honored to play such a unique role in God's plan.
