American employers who lacked workers often promoted jobs so immigrants could come work for them, they even published a guide called "Where to emigrate and why,” the steamship companies advertised to passengers and explained to them how much faster it would be and that it was healthier and safer. Once immigrants arrived here, they wrote to their families and friends describing how good life in the United States was, which brought even more immigrants to the United States. However, when some immigrants arrived, they realized that this was not what people described or what they expected/hoped for; it would be the immigrants who would do all the dirty work. They also didn't have the best accommodation, the toilets were at the end of the corridor and they shared their apartment.
