  • Essay / Ethical Integrity When Writing a Thesis

Performing the actual research of a thesis is a process that can pose many ethical violations such as fabrication of data, falsification of data or plagiarism (Committee, 2009). Additionally, Committee (2009) stated that to perform research, the research must know how to manage data. For my research, I will be discreet about data processing and open in communicating with my participants, issuing informed consent forms to all my participants and requiring signatures to be completed before any research is conducted. I will have formal and informal question and answer sessions with each participant explaining everything my research is intended to cover. Afterward, I will post a document that states everything in writing and from there participants will have time to read and ask further questions before continuing. Once the research is completed and the data analyzed, I will begin the process of writing my thesis manuscript. The American Psychological Association (2012) stated that researchers should not reveal any personal information that could identify a participant in a research study. For my thesis, I will assign each participant a unique identifier; thereafter, the participant will no longer be identified by name. The unique identifier will be the only document allowing a name to be traced. The document will be locked in a safe and I will be the only person with the code. Additionally, I will issue a form, which must be signed by the participant, stating my methods for destroying participant data once my research has been completed. Currently my plan is to contact a professional company to shred the unique identification document. Meeting ethical standards o...... middle of paper ...... unethical decisions at work.
