Essay / Plato's Cave: How do we make decisions? - 893
When you're walking in a park and you come to a fork in the path, how do you know which one to take? How to decide which one to take? Are you making the decision based on the mistakes you've made or do you just want to see where it takes you? Many of us want to make a decision so quickly that we don't waste time, but others want to look back and see what they learned and make a decision based on related events. George Shaw once said that "a life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but also more useful than a life spent doing nothing." In this quote he meant that it is better to make a mistake than to try to be perfect all the time. In every valley of life you are going to make mistakes, but that is not the important part of the aspect. The most important part is how they rise up on their own to overcome the mistake they made. In reading Plato's Allegory of the Cave, this can concern anyone if they are lucky enough to understand the reading. The story took place in a cave and four people were tied like prisoners to a railing. They had to look at the wall at the back of the cave to know what is true and what is real. The people in the cave decided to let one of the prisoners see what was really true. They also let him out to see what is in the outside world that he was never told about. While he was outside, he saw the real information and came to the conclusion that he was going to go back and tell the rest of the prisoners what he had seen. This one saw the opportunity to be the leader so he seized the opportunity. There is almost a chance in your life that you have the decision of what you are going to do in a very important situation. Situation ... middle of paper ... did you do it? From the outside you might say it's difficult but it's relatively simple to do. People can't tell until they try it and see it personally. Growing up for everyone is different. That's supposed to be why everyone followed the same path. Growing up is inherently painful because life is not an easy job to do. There are supposed to be hard times in life and really bad times just so you know where you came from and see what you are today. If this didn't happen, what would everyone do, because we will be like children for the rest of our lives, but it will never happen. It is also painful to be shown that we have to work for what we have so that we can enjoy the things we work for. Do you appreciate the decision you made in the path you decided to follow in life to be who you are today?
