The use of simulation in the development of oral skills of third year students of the Fast-track program, FELTE, ULIS-VNU1. The problem statement, background and rationale for the research. Along with the huge demand for good English communication skills, traditional teaching methods focusing on grammar and vocabulary have been gradually replaced by the emergence of a new method called Communicative Language Teaching. This method aims to improve the “communicative competence” of learners which requires not only grammatical and lexical knowledge but also strategic, actional and sociocultural skills (Celce-Murcia et al, 1995). To meet the requirements of this new teaching method, simulation has been applied in language classes to improve students' oral skills. Simulation has long been considered an innovative and creative teaching technique in language classes. According to Tompkins (1998), simulation is "a valuable method for L2 teaching" because it "encourages thinking and creativity", "develops and practices new linguistic and behavioral skills" and "creates motivation and 'involvement' of students. Among third-year students in the ULIS Fast-track program, the use of simulation has proven that the benefits of this teaching method in developing learners' oral skills are considerable. This opened a promising picture in which full use of simulation is highly recommended. In the situation of the Faculty of English Teacher Training, ULIS, it is the fact that only third year Fast track students have an official oral activity called Simulation. in their program, who obtains fifteen marks (15%) of the total evaluation of the speaking course. With all...... middle of paper ......g for each simulation and carrying it out in class. As a result, it is possible for learners to benefit from the use of simulation in terms of developing speaking skills.* Reference List:7. AT, TH (ed.). (2011).
