Today's generation of children and young adults has grown up with easy access to technology. They carry cell phones that allow instant communication with their friends and instant access to the Internet. For them, doing research means opening an Internet browser, typing in a topic, and being presented with thousands of choices from which to choose. Traditional teacher-led instruction does not promote the type of interactive learning that technology has enabled students to use. Today's teacher must learn to include a more interactive teaching style that the technology-savvy student is programmed to understand and enjoy. Interactive learning engages students' interests, improves their understanding and increases their achievement. By using the range of techniques offered by interactive learning, it will radically change the overall performance of students. Active participation in class discussions and integration of technology are techniques that could be used to attempt to spark student interests. Interactive learning provides the opportunity to actively engage in the discussion instead of just listening to an instructor throw huge amounts of information at them. Using technology is a way for students to become active in their learning. Tools such as interactive whiteboards allow children to participate in classroom games, visit websites, and review problems step by step. As technology advances, students are relying on teachers to integrate technology into their lessons more frequently. In traditional classes, the teacher gives a lot of material, but if the student doesn't pay attention, does learning take place? To deny students this additional teaching method is to deny that technology has replaced much of the rote learning used in traditional classrooms.
