    Hundreds of thousands of innocent Japanese citizens died at the hands of the atomic bomb unleashed by the United States, as recounted in the novel Hiroshima by John Hersey. The United States thought it was protecting Japan from further damage, but instead it caused horrible destruction that Japan would face for years and years to come.
