  • Essay / Wrongly Accused: A Deadly Mistake - 808

In Corsicana, Texas, the home of Cameron Willingham and his family was burned down on December 23, 1991. According to the report, Cameron was sleeping when the fire broke out and survived the accident. with only a few injured, as for his children, they were not so lucky, they lost their lives in the tragic accident. At the time of the accident, Cameron's wife was shopping for Christmas presents for their children. According to a witness, his daughter, Diane, and Buffie, from a few houses away, came out and saw Cameron screaming, "My babies are burning!" » Diane and Cameron made countless attempts to rescue the girls from their room until firefighters could get there. According to the New Yorker, "the house, in short, had been deliberately transformed into a death trap." According to information from December 24 and 27, 1991, the fire was declared arson and it was then decided to open a criminal investigation. Cameron was questioned by investigators on December 31, then arrested on January 8, 1992, for the deaths of his three daughters. After the arrest on January 8, 1992, the trial began on August 18, 1992. The State had two factors that played a role in participating in the trial. One being Johnny Everett Webb, a fellow inmate, with Cameron Willingham in the Navarro County Jail. The second major factor involves the testimony of investigators Vasquez and Frogg about what they say happened that night. Prosecutors believed Cameron intentionally tried to murder his children by burning down his house. Cameron Willingham never changed his story and always seemed innocent. Willingham was convicted based on the testimony forensic experts gave in court because a former prisoner... middle of paper... seemed so real. In conclusion, the Texas government should have done a better job during this investigation and discovered that this was an accident before an innocent man was executed.
