Millions of animal lives are being taken away for no good reason. America needs clear test results and that's just not something animal testing can give us. We need to start using more alternatives that don't involve endangering innocent animals. If the US could follow in the EU's footsteps and ban animal testing in cosmetics, we would benefit as much as they do, and maybe even more. The EU began by phasing out animal testing in cosmetics and sought alternatives to testing. If the US started with small steps, like the EU, it might be possible. If the US would just decide to slowly start allowing companies to only use already safe products or use alternative testing methods. Even though some people think there are bigger problems in our world, and there are, that doesn't dismiss other problems or minimize them. There is a global campaign called “Be Cruelty Free”. This supports an end to cosmetic testing and follows the EU ban as well as several other countries stopping animal testing for cosmetics in their countries. This campaign, along with bans from the EU and other countries, could provide a springboard for the United States to take a few steps forward. What is needed first is awareness. Many cosmetic users, and even those who don't, are completely unaware that animals are even used to test these products.
