Droughts are natural events and occur all over the world. A drought occurs when precipitation falls below normal standards in the area. This is notably due to anticyclonic pressure above average in the region. Droughts are periodic and tend to alternate with floods over several years. An increase in the frequency of droughts over the next two decades is now expected to be one of the effects of global warming. We do not often remember the effects of droughts directly linked to agricultural losses. Records usually focus on other issues, but lack of precipitation during droughts also affects wildlife, in addition to water shortages created for domestic needs. What people remember about droughts are damaged crops from lack of precipitation, high temperatures, high winds, insect infestations and dust storms that quickly follow drought conditions.
